Chief treasury secretary Steve Barclay has announced that the planned extension of the off payroll working rules to the private sector will not now come into force on 6 April this year.

The announcement is in response to the ongoing spread of covid-19 in order to help businesses and individuals.

He confirmed that the decision was “a deferral, not a cancellation, and the government remains committed to reintroducing this policy”.

The reforms will now come into force on 6 April 2021.
