Technical guidance on the changes to adoption leave and pay has been issued by the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.

Changes came into effect on 5 April 2015 which among other things:

  • Removed the 26 qualifying period for adoption leave
  • Brought statutory adoption pay into line with statutory maternity pay by increasing the rate for the first six weeks to 90% of earnings
  • Extend the right to adoption leave and pay to parents who are “fostering for adoption” and to parents in surrogacy arrangements if they are eligible for and intend to apply for a parental order.

The guidance is available here.
