Following the Chancellor’s announcement that the coronavirus job retention scheme (CJRS) has been extended until the end of March 2021, the Government has updated all of its furlough guidance.

Most of the guidance has simply been updated as necessary to reflect the scheme extension. However, there is an important change which relates to employees who are being made redundant and serving out their notice period. While employers can continue to claim for such employees for claim periods in November, the Check which employees you can put on furlough guidance indicates that the Government will be reviewing this and will change the approach for claim periods starting or on after 1 December. This suggests that in all likelihood employers will not be able to claim a grant for employees who are under notice after the end of November. Unfortunately, the Government will not be publishing further guidance on this until the end of November.
