Fitness to Practise

Facing a fitness to practise panel can be an overwhelming experience, even for the most prepared professionals. Failing to meet the required standards could result in losing your licence or being permanently barred from your profession. It is therefore crucial to present your case effectively and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism.

Please note: we are only able to take on privately funded cases. If you are unable to fund your case privately or if you are looking for general guidance on what actions you can take to protect your or your child’s education rights, you may refer to the Citizens Advice website.

What Does 'Fitness to Practise' Mean?

A fitness to practise review is a rigorous process designed to ensure professionals meet the standards required by their industry. These proceedings assess an individual’s skills, knowledge, judgment, and character to confirm they are fit to hold a licence and continue practising. This assessment can also extend to conduct outside of work, creating complex situations that can be challenging to navigate.

Fitness to practice reviews are most common in highly regulated, public-facing professions such as law and medicine. Similar processes also apply in education and other sectors where professional licences are required.

During an investigation, both your immediate and long-term conduct will be thoroughly reviewed. This may involve questions related to:

  • Ethical breaches
  • Fraud or financial misconduct
  • Practising beyond your professional scope
  • Previous convictions or cautions
  • Allegations of dishonesty
  • Sexual misconduct
  • Substance abuse
  • Other serious concerns

Given the seriousness of these issues, securing high-quality legal representation is essential to ensure you receive the best possible support.
