Statistics for April to June 2014 reveal there were 70% fewer single employment tribunal claims than in the same period last year.

3792 single claims were presented, down a third on the previous quarter. The difference is attributed to the introduction of mandatory Acas early conciliation.

This is the third consecutive quarter for which the statistics show a significant drop in the number of claims and follows the introduction of fees for bringing employment tribunal claims in July last year.

In the meantime, Unison has been given permission to issue fresh Judicial Review proceedings after its earlier proceedings were dismissed by the High Court due to a lack of robust evidence at that time. A new hearing is expected to take place on 21 and 22 October.
