James is a partner in Doyle Clayton’s pensions practice, advising both employers and trustees on a broad range of pensions issues spanning advisory, regulatory, transactional as well as contentious matters.

He has extensive experience in drafting consolidations and advising on both DB and DC bulk transfers, closures to accrual and other future benefit changes, complex funding deals involving the Pensions Regulator, and automatic enrolment. He has a particular expertise in advising on pensions regulatory issues and the pensions aspects of restructurings. This has included advising on moral hazard issues, clearance applications, apportionment agreements, above-PPF compromises, Schemes of Arrangement, PPF drop-ins, pre-pack administrations and CVAs.

He is a regular speaker at industry-wide events, having presented to the Bristol Actuarial Society on pension schemes and VAT, the Welsh Actuarial Society on GMP equalisation and at the APL Benefit Redesign and Liability Management Course on winding-up in deficit.
