We have seen an increase in companies requesting support in developing the health and safety management system to BS OHSAS 18001 level. The benefits are seen by industry both at national and international level.

So what is BS OHSAS 18001?

It is a structured systematic process to prevent, manage, control and monitor risks within an organisation. Organisations are receptive to the pro-active rather then re-active approach to managing health and safety risk. Both short and long term strategies in the health and safety management of the organisation are managed better with a structured process. The key to successful management is the detail that is required in all aspects of health and safety.

Why do organisations believe in obtaining BS OHSAS 18001 certification?

An organisation can prove to its stakeholders and others that they have undergone a rigorous audit process completed by an independent third party who evaluates if health and safety is an integral part of the organisation’s management.

Changes ahead

BS OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety Management System is under review and will be known as ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System once it is launched. The launch is expected in October 2016.
