The Government has published its response to the Women and Equalities Committee’s report on pregnancy and maternity discrimination.

It has rejected the majority of the Committee’s recommendations but has committed to strengthening the protection of women in relation to redundancy whilst pregnant or when returning from maternity leave.

The Committee also called for the extension of maternity–related rights to workers, including the right to paid time off for antenatal appointments. The Government indicated that this is something which Matthew Taylor MP will consider as part of his review into employment status, due be published mid-2017.
